Glenn Littlejohn

PC Candidate in Port de Grave District

Glenn Littlejohn will be the Progressive Conservative candidate for the District of Port de Grave in the 2011 general election.

Glenn was born in Bay Roberts to the late Jim and Eileen Littlejohn in 1962. Glenn and Leanne (nee Mercer of Shearstown) have been married for 21 years and they have two sons, Scott and Andrew.

Glenn graduated from Ascension Collegiate in 1979 and went on to Memorial University where he received both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Education in the fall of 1985.

Glenn first sought elected office in 1997 when he ran successfully for a seat on the Bay Roberts Town Council. Since then, Glenn has served the town as a councillor, deputy mayor and for the last 6 years as mayor. Glenn ran in the 2007 Provincial election but was defeated and is back for a second time offering his leadership abilities to the people in the District of Port de Grave.

Glenn began his professional life teaching with the Avalon North School Board for two years. Since then Glenn has worked for the Provincial Government for 24 years, starting in 1987 as a Recreation and Youth Specialist for Labrador. For the last 14 years he has worked as a Recreation and Sport Consultant within the Department of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. There he has been the lead consultant for the Province’s Canada Games program. Twice he has lead Team Newfoundland and Labrador and its 350 athletes, coaches and mission staff. As well, he has had a lead role in the 2010 Olympic Torch Relay, the 2010 Newfoundland and Labrador Games, and has spent time in the Director’s role. Glenn has also worked in the Department of Municipal Affairs and the Department of Education.

Glenn takes an active part in church life and is a member of the Central United Male Choir.

Glenn has an extensive volunteer background not only locally but provincially and nationally as well. He sits on the board of the Trinity, Conception, Placentia Health Foundation and is a founding and active member of the Trinity Conception Relay for Life. He is also a member of the Canada Games Council Sport Committee. He is actively involved in the Bay Roberts Minor Softball program and the Bay Arena Referee’s Association. He is a long time hockey and softball coach and has coached successfully at national, provincial and local levels. Glenn was inducted into the Softball Newfoundland and Labrador Hall of Fame in 2008.
